Cup Success

Having watched the semi-final in Singapore, I was looking forward to what I thought would be an easy enough FA Cup Final against West Ham, who we’d hammered on the last day of the season. Though he hasn’t really done too much on the pitch, I was especially glad of having Harry Kewell in the squad, as it guaranteed that the Australian TV corporations would pick up the live broadcast of the match.

Watching the final with a load of people who don’t really care about football and are just mildly-interested spectators was difficult, but much better than not watching it at all. And they could all appreciate the genius of Steven Gerrard’s 35 yard rocket, if not my leaping celebration. Anyway, congratulations to Liverpool, winning yet another classic cup final.

One of the guys, Ian, had a meeting up in Jurien Bay today, so I hopped in the car to go with him and get a taste of the Australian road. Jurien Bay is pretty close as things go in Australia, being ‘only’ 3 hours north of Perth, up the coast. So far, if I had to pick a word to describe Australia, it would be ‘red’. Whether it’s the case elsewhere in the country, the roads and dirt outside the city here are a deep orangey-red colour, which everybody apart from me seems thoroughly unimpressed with. I guess it’s the same ’so what?’ attitude I have to living 20 minutes away from the 2000 year old City of Chester.
