Description
X-Valid attempts to take arbitrary posts and comments and transform them into valid XHTML, a standard that describes how web-pages should be written. While not the be-all-and-end-all of web development, it is important as it allows the post to appear as you would expect in Internet Explorer, as well as better browsers. Wordpress itself is already XHTML valid, but the same cannot be necessarily said of post content itself. It is especially hard (that is, impossible) to guarantee that your comment posters will conform to these standards, which could theoretically lead to your site displaying incorrectly. It covers a wide range of markup errors, and is configurable via a menu interface which can be found as a Plugins submenu.
Notes
X-Valid can automatically change some aspects of a comment, so if comment checking is turned on, you might want to include a small message to that effect somewhere in or close to the comment form to let the commenter know.
IMPORTANT: X-Valid is now only compatible with WordPress 2.0+
For those of you looking for a WordPress 1.5 compatible version, download this file (version 0.98.1). Put the doctype files in 'wp-content/xvalid/', not 'wp-content/plugins/xvalid/'.
For those of you looking for a WordPress 1.2 compatible version, download this file (version 0.92). Put the plugin in the usual place and the xvalid-menu.php file in the wp-admin folder. The menu appears as a submenu of Options.
If you want to test X-Valid to get an idea of what it does, you can try a Live Test.
Major kudos to Andy Skelton for upgrading large sections of the interface code. Version 1.0 is a major reworking and should be treated as such. Please report any problems you have in the forums. Thanks.
