The recent major earthquake off the coast didn’t do me any harm at all, thanks for asking!

Earth Shattering
Thanks to everyone (that is, all three of you!) who asked how I was during the earthquake. In actual fact, I didn’t even know about it until I was told by people back home as it was too far north to be felt here.
However, the area of Niigata was pretty affected with loads of buildings destroyed. The quake measured 6.8, only a little less powerful than the Kobe earthquake in 1995 which came in at 7.2. Despite the relatively similar strengths, only a handful of people died this time, compared with around 6000 in Kobe. Niigata is only sparsely populated (for Japan at least), so it’s lucky it hit where it did (though, obviously not for the bereaved).
A huge earthquake is predicted for exactly where I live between now and the next 30 years. It’s a strange thing to have to worry about, but makes up for the lack of petty crime quite well…
