Learning to read Japanese is really really ridiculously hard. So hard that you have to use a dictionary in order to use a dictionary.

Bootstrapping A Dictionary
I’m really trying hard to learn how to read Japanese, but the problems of not being able to pronounce, draw or remember the thousands of kanji necessary to do so are seriously hampering my attempts. In an effort to fight back I bought an electronic dictionary which allows me to look up the kanji by its constituent parts, get a pronunciation and, finally, an English translation. I figured that this would greatly speed up my studies, which, for the most part, center on trying to read Japanese 漫画 such as Golgo 13.
