Just Not Cricket
Yesterday was another day, another cricket defeat. I can hardly wait for the inevitable ironic cheers on Monday at work. I was out last night for a friend’s birthday at a local bar, when who should walk in but our fallen heroes. Freddie Flintoff, Ian Bell, Mal Loye and a couple of others were out, seemingly unconcerned about the TVs around the bar continually replaying the day’s defeat.
“Do you know how hard it is to be a Pom working in Australia, when you guys keep playing like such a bunch of muppets?” is what I wanted to say to them, but naturally, I didn’t. Besides, Flintoff is absolutely massive and could’ve bounced me like a ball. I could totally take Bell though…
In their defence, after a poor innings (and the most tragicomical runout to date), the bowling attack finally did some damage and it almost looked like we could snatch a victory, before that most English of endings, ‘Just Not Quite’™. Most Aussies deride Michael Hussey, it seems, but you should have seen how quickly he became toast of the town last night after steering them to victory. Then again, Aussies are mostly descended from Brits, so they’ve probably picked up a trick or two from the media back in the motherland.
At least we’ve got the Kiwis next…
