Pimps And Hoes

It had been a long time since everyone had been out together as a group, so it was decided last night that we should make amends by hitting the town in a big way. And just in case a group of 15 to 20 gaijin might be missed on the mean streets of Gifu, we made sure we had everyone’s attention by making it a Pimps and Hoes night.

The costumes were remarkably easy to find, especially for the girls, as it turned out that their entire outfits could be bought off the rack at all the department stores. For anyone that doubts that Japanese fashion is stuck in the 80’s check out the soon-to-be bursting “Japanese Fashion” section of thegallery. The results were pretty impressive, with some of the guys going the extra mile too and finding outfits not seen this side of the 70s. As for myself, a loud, half-buttoned Hawaiin shirt over a suit was enough, though apparently it just made me look like an English tourist!

The funny thing was that even looking as we did, we didn’t really attract much attention. On the one hand, it could be because the locals were too embarrassed/nervous to stare, but that really doesn’t bother them normally. What was more likely is that we actually fitted in for once…

In any case, wearing these clothes still demanded that we get drunk enough not to care, so it was little wonder that we ended at karaoke once again, where we stayed till the early hours.
